Bloomfield School District Parents,
I wanted to reach out to everyone and introduce myself to the Bloomfield School District family, my name is Roger Tingley, and I am the new Transportation Manager for the District.

Thank  you  for  your  continued  support  as  we  move  toward  making  Bloomfield  Schools Transportation the best and most efficient Bus Barn in the state and perhaps the in the country.

Since the start of the school year, we have been working hard to ensure that all eligible students are provided transportation services to-and-from school.  We began the school year in a challenging situation having only 11 drivers working to cover what was previously 18 routes. We were struggling very much with combined routes and pushing the limits for overloading buses as well as some buses getting loaded and having to drop off some students before they could return to other schools and pick up the remainder of their students.

I am happy to report that we now have 15 drivers and have gotten most of our routes separated back out the way they should be. This has relieved most of the second trips and overloading situations. We also still have additional drivers in training to finish solving these issues.

My request now is that you as parents help us to solve some issues in the pickup lines at the schools. We continue to face pickup lines so long that they interfere with the buses being able to get into or out of the schools. Please consider putting your child back on the school bus.

If you are among those parents that have opted to transport your student(s) to and from school yourself for whatever reason, I would encourage you to put your kids back on the bus to relieve some of the issues at the pickup lines as well as to ensure your students get the safest possible ride home.   Each school day, millions of children ride school buses. Did you know that the school bus is one of the safest vehicles on the road? Less than 1% of all traffic fatalities involve children on school transportation vehicles (https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/school-bus-safety)

In the recent months, I have been learning and listening to many concerns regarding our transportation department.  We are continuously working toward finding solutions and making positive changes that will improve our services.  Please continue to reach out to us here at the bus barn if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. We are eager to work with you in finding the best possible solutions in safely transporting our Bloomfield students.

Thank You,

Roger W. Tingley
